Feature Article - Why Become a CMP?
|
 |
|
The Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) is an internationally recognized certification program that evaluates the competency of meeting professionals. Established in 1985 by the Convention Industry Council (CIC), the CMP program was launched to enhance the knowledge and performance of meeting professionals, promote the status and credibility of the meeting profession and advance uniform standards of practice.
|
Recognition: As the premier industry certification, the CMP distinguishes holders as career professionals who have demonstrated a high level of experience, skill and knowledge.
Competitive Advantage: The designation conveys credibility to a meeting professionals opinions and ideas, both at work and in the greater meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.
Peer Acceptance: CMPs are immediately recognized by other CMPs as fellow professionals committed to the advancement of the profession.
Salary Enhancement: CMPs can use the certification as a competitive advantage when it comes to negotiating salaries and other business.
Personal Achievement: After passing a rigorous application and examination process, CMPs express a profound sense of personal achievement at finally being regarded as the exceptionally skilled professional they are.
Commitment: Successful completion of the certification process conveys that the certified meeting professional is committed and goal driven in their career.
Applications are due by August 10th for those wanting to sit for the January 8, 2011 exam. CIC has endorsed several study tools to help you succeed such as the PCMA CMP Online Prep Course, MPI CMP Study Guide, and domestic and international study groups. Click here for more information.

Southwest Airlines will begin servicing Charleston International Airport over the next year. Southwest’s arrival is heralded as a boon to the local tourism economy according to Helen Hill, Executive Director of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The number one challenge we face in attracting meetings and conventions to the Charleston area has been the lack of flights and the high cost of airfare. Having Southwest enter our market will not only have a moderating effect on airfares across the board, it will open up more seats to more places, which benefits everyone.” Read more.
